How Racing Can Be So Boring!

May 10, 2018

I thought another blog was long overdue, so I took some time to do some writing.

I’m not going lie, when I was imagining being a race car driver, it was a little different in my head. You know, fast cars, bright lights, always on the move, and while I certainly haven’t been disappointed by racing one bit, I have been a little blindsided by some of the responsibilities and “behind the scenes” work.

The Tasks are Endless

Who knew as an owner I’d be responsible for so many different aspects of the team. From starting my own corporation to website design and development and of course, social media, there has been tons of stuff that I didn’t expect coming into racing. As it turns out, the actual racing is only the tip of the iceberg, and there’s plenty to the business side like getting sponsors and working out a budget. Not to mention making a corporation and a brand. I sure didn’t even expect to be designing swag with my name on it but we have that in the works too.

If you are just starting out, consider all these aspects that you or a team member will be responsible for:

  • Starting a corporation including a name, legal and accounting advice costs
  • Hiring professionals to help you in every area of the company
  • Making decisions for your brand and marketing
  • Developing enough value for sponsorships and then actually getting some
  • And still putting in your own training, physically and behind the wheel

But all those Boring Parts are Worth it

It’s crazy to think about how far I’ve come from driving a tiny little 4 stroke kart, to owning an entire corporation and driving formula cars. The thought of being a race car driver wasn’t even in my mind back then. Only until I got into a 2 stroke kart did I realize that I never wanted to stop racing. When I was younger I was convinced I didn’t want to enter business because my dad seemed like he had the most boring job in the world, but sometimes racing is a desk job, and I’m actually okay with that. And as unexpected as all of the business side was to me, it’s actually been a lot of fun and a great learning experience.

Seeing and experiencing the growth of the LCR brand is amazing and something that I take great pride in. It’s safe to say that racing still doesn’t disappoint at all, on both sides of the coin.

On the Road to Indy,
Logan Cusson
LCR Owner
